Close-up of the eye of THIS giant squid (Architeuthis dux) from the reference image, in the same 3D animated-movie style and the same dim blue deep-water light. The squid's body extends to the LEFT, its arms are on the RIGHT. The eye is huge, about the size of a football, on the side of the head just before the arms. The pupil is a perfectly round, smooth, pitch-black circle, round like a coin, with a clear spherical lens bulging very slightly through it and one soft diffused reflection in its upper-left part. Around it, a wide, even, shimmering silvery-gold iris fills the whole eye opening right up to the skin edge. The eye opening is a smooth oval set flush into the head, edged by a thin, flat, taut rim of skin; its right corner, facing the arms, narrows into one small smooth teardrop-shaped notch. The skin is wet, smooth and slightly translucent, deep reddish-maroon with a soft bronze sheen, with a very fine, tiny dark-red chromatophore grain like fine sand. On the right, the bases of thick arms with suckers in two rows, each sucker a small cup on a short stalk with a pale toothed ring. Faint particles in dark blue water. Only the squid.
